When we go grocery shopping, we obviously buy according to what we need, but we also pay close attention to the expiration date on the items-- right? Especially with items such as milk, juices, and meat because that's the indiction of when the food can start to go bad. However, we usually do not think the same when it comes to our home and furniture. There comes a time where parts of our home start to ware out and same goes for our furniture.
So, what are the signs that it's time to reupholster?
You can feel when your sofa is not supporting you like it once did when you first bought it. Cushions can start to ware out becoming too soft with no support almost feeling like you're sinking. You can also look to see how the fabric is holding up. Is it fraying? Are there any holes? Is the color or design disappearing because of too much use? If you said yes to any of these then it's more than likely time to reupholster. A sofa typically lasts anywhere between 7 to 15 years depending how busy your household is.
Same goes with any other room chair or table. For example, if your dinning room chairs are wobbly and not sturdy at all then it actually may be time to replace them. If your table has any scratches, dents, or stains-- you could get it refinished and bring it back to its original condition.
